Explain in your own words, the FOUR key recommendations of the report.

- Housing For Seniors
- Accessibility for Seniors
- Caring for Seniors
- Opportunities for Seniors

The CAI was formed to help the elderly in Singapore,as there are more elderly than the young nowadays. As we know, the elderly do not have much income as they do not earn a lot. Employers nowadays want educated people to work for them,and those minority jobs like cleaners and such are taken up by foreign workers and only a handful of Singaporean elderly get a job.Therefore they have to find a lot of ways to pay for their bills, e.g medical bills.However,without a job,they are unable to pay these bills,and may not even have sufficient money to pay for their house,rented or owned.They then have to move out,and they won't have a place to go,perhaps because their unfilial children disowned them or they do not even have children to take care of them.Hence it is recommended to lower the cost of property for the seniors so that they would not face so much difficulties and carry a huge burden.

In accessibility for seniors, the town council is making all HDB housing barrier-free in an effort to make Singapore a more accessible for the elderly. LTA is also working to make all new buses low-floor, step-free and wheelchair accessible. The environment will be made more accessible for the elderly.

the government will top up Medisave accounts of less well off senior citizens.They will also make clinics and hospitals more accessible and convenient for the elderly.There will also be a Caregiver centre to support families in need of caregiving.This way,the elderly would get more care and attention to their health needs.

The government would organise more programmes and activities for seniors and by seniors themselves. The government would also provide more public spaces so that it would be more convenient for the elderly to engage in sports and activities.This helps them to stay healthy and active.


State ONE way that the CAI report is recommending to make our public housing more elderly-friendly.

They will be having elderly-friendly accessible lifts(in blocks where they live and there are no lifts for them)proper walkways and transport pickup points as well.



State TWO ways on how we can ensure that the quality of elderly care here in Singapore is affordable.

- Lowering fares to different places and public transport.
- Offering free health check ups for elderly every now and then.


After reading the CAI report, what do you are the THREE things that you can do, as an SST student, to help overcome these elderly challenges?

- Volunteering at Old Folks' homes regularly
- Having and showing a positive attitude towards senior citizens and and helping them out
- Organizing activities that would help them stay active and also stay alert of the society(They are always the easiest victims of theft,it is better to educate them about it or something)
